Visual Studio 2008 Tour and Install Party

This month (February 27, 2008 18:00) I'll be speaking at the Dayton .NET Developers Group about Visual Studio 2008 and .NET 3.5.

The official blub is:

Visual Studio 2008 and .NET 3.5 are soon to be released, after a very public and open beta process. We will run around the products, and discuss what the new features are. This will briefly cover VS, WCF, WF, C# and VB.NET features.

<RandomSideNote>
I'm actually filling in for Brian Prince, who was filling in for Jeff Blankenburg. Both of whom are very busy men. Being that I'm a single guy, with no kids, or pets I figured I could jump in and help out. People seemed to be excited about this upcoming meeting, I just couldn't let it be canceled.

  1. What type of information will you present on .NET 3.5 and VS 2008? Will it be demos, Microsoft slides, personal experience, etc? I'm trying to find out if it's something new or something I've already seen from Microsoft to determine if I should drive up from Cinci.

  2. Maggie- It will be demos and Microsoft slides. I'm going to touch on the new features of the VS 2k8 application in regards to office, mobile apps, win forms, and web apps. With a demo of the new web app features. Then, I'll address the new .NET 3.5 "syntatic sugar" and hope to demo all flavors of LINQ. (Time permitting). Don't forget, if you don't have a copy of VS2k8 Pro, the first 52 souls thru the door will get their own full version.

  3. Great job on the presentation. I'm not a guy who uses the designer much but some of the CSS stuff looks pretty helpful. Nested or not, I still don't know about master pages. Unless they've stopped messing with the rendered IDs of the controls you put on the page.

    I'm pretty excited to try out some of the new features now that I've actually got a copy of VS 2008.
